Villages of Kundapura

The taluk beyond the town.

Kundapura taluk spreads far beyond the town itself, across dozens of villages of paddy fields, areca groves, riverside hamlets and temple settlements. Each has its own character, deity and place in the life of the coast.

Koteshwara

Koteshwara, just south of Kundapura, is an ancient settlement built around the Kotilingeshwara temple. Once an important centre, it remains a focus of temple life and local commerce.

Trasi, Maravanthe and the coast road

Trasi and Maravanthe line the scenic coastal stretch, their fortunes tied to the beaches and the Souparnika. These villages are increasingly part of the tourism economy.

Vandse, Kota and Shankaranarayana

Vandse, Kota and Shankaranarayana lie inland amid rich farmland; Shankaranarayana is known for its Hari-Hara temple, and Kota for its literary and temple heritage. They anchor the agricultural economy.

Hattiangadi, Bijoor and the river villages

Hattiangadi — an old inscriptional site on the Varahi — Bijoor, Hemmady and the hamlets around Gangolli reflect the close bond between the taluk's villages and its rivers.
